Ninja Obsession - Amon Tobin, The Cinematic Orchestra

December 3rd, 2006

Just had a look at Ninja Obsession, the Ninja Tune record label’s fan site, and read about some upcoming releases from:

The Cinematic Orchestra - Ma Fleur: Very pleased to hear that they’re still making music, it’s been like 4 years since the release of Man with the movie camera.

Amon Tobin - Foley Room: I’ve heard about this one since he put two interesting trailers on his myspace page. I’m bursting with anxiety for this one.

Genius of noise manipulation and uncompromising musical auteur, Amon Tobin will shortly be releasing his new album for Ninja Tune, “Foley Room”. For this new project Amon and a team of assistants headed out into the streets with high sensitivity microphones and recorded found sounds from tigers roaring to cats eating rats, neighbours singing in the bath to ants eating grass. Tobin then took this wealth of source material and twisted it round into the haunting, muscular music you can hear for the first time here.

Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosn’t mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe.

Or rather…

According to a researcher (sic) at Cambridge University, it doesn’t matter in what order the letters in a word are, the only important thing is that the first and last letter be at the right place. The rest can be a total mess and you can still read it without problem. This is because the human mind does not read every letter by itself but the word as a whole.

Bonobo - Days to Come

Days to Come

Just copped the new Bonobo album through itunes, ripped the DRM out and burned it.
It’s pure, it’s raw, it’s great.

Simon Green (aka Bonobo) has truly crafted yet another beautiful album, full of haunting melodies and pulsating beats. It’s less melodic and more jazzy than Dial M for Monkey, which is cool. On 4 of the 11 tracks you can hear beautiful vocals from a soul singer who goes by the name of bajka that blends in nicely.
Very laid back, chill-out album, definitely gonna play this a lot in my car.

Update: This bajka girl’s voice suspiciously sounds a lot like Zap Mama’s, hmm.

Tunnel In Russia

What the hell is wrong with this tunnel, you would ask.

This tunnel in Russia is the longest in-city tunnel of Europe. There is a river running over it, and water leaks at some points. When the temperature reaches -38 degrees, like it did this winter, the road freezes and the result is the attached video taken during a single day with the tunnel camera.
