Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid - Tongues
Filed under Electronic, Instrumental, Jazz, Music.

I like a good percussion project from time to time, and did I love Post rock band Tortoise’s Bumps project at Stonesthrow from a few months back.
Time for something new, actually Tongues is not a new release either but I never really got a chance to listen to it closely.
Kieran Hebden, better known as Four Tet, joins jazz drummer Steve Reid for a third time, after 2 live recorded improv EP’s.
Hebden’s epileptic kicks and electronic samples sound very well next to Reid’s laid-back drums. While some people might rate this very low for the lack of song structure, I applaud that thought, cause it’s not meant to be that kind of record. It’s more of an improvisational experiment and I think they’re just trying to show off their skills and let us know how great they work together.
Not for everyone though, also it might take a few listens to really appreciate it.
I do think at times Hebden went a little over the top with his electronic hums and clicks, but overall they succeeded in making a very enjoyable record for the novice jazz listener.

[...] Four Tet’s new Ringer EP is crazy. Great to see new work from the musical genius that is Kieran Hebden, besides his work with Steve Reid. [...]
