Not at all self-absorbed, Esau Mwamawaya and Radioclit are The Very Best. Aside from their larger than life band name and the fact that their exhilarating The Very Best Mixtape from last year, which by the way is still available as a free download, was a huge revelation to the whole blogosphere, it feels like they can come pretty close to realizing that goal. I haven’t heard such fun and joy in one album since the previous to last Architecture in Helsinki album.
With one Malawi born vocalist and a British duo on production, one might expect a mix of afropop and electro hits. True, but even more they took the concept and songwriting a step further. A perfectly structured combo between contagious feel-good chants and heartfelt (mind the pun) atmospheric tracks, strengthened by Esau’s lively voice and shaded by warm lush vibes which reminds you what the album title implies.
You can feel the sun, the earth, the energy and still you feel struck by their outright enthusiasm.
