Clash of the Titans (2010)
2/10
A complete waste of time. Worst movie of the year so far.

It's a little easy to evoke emotion when almost a whole Sigur Rós album is playing in the background. Despite that, it's a good parenting film, but there just isn't anything in it for me.

Inception (2010)
8/10
Astounding piece of imagination (and not forget sci-fi logic). Nolan is a master at creating suspense and never breaking away from that bomb-rushing moment. I do think it could have been beneficial if the movie was a half hour shorter or there was more character development, but I really was blown away.

"Training Day" director delivers in dark aesthetic but fails to give me any sort of drama or heartfelt emotion. Big talk with very little content.

World's Greatest Dad (2009/I)
9/10
This is in no way a great film, but this movie really got a hold of me. It's something more than just jokes and thought, it's dark when it needs to be, satirical and vulgar at times. But the weird thing is that it all felt special, like a perfect cult film. Everything just felt right.

Remember Me (2010)
7/10
The opening scene was powerful, the rest of the movie was one overly melodramatic scene, but the surprisingly dramatic wow-effect of the ending hugely makes up for it. Go see.

Surprisingly enjoyable, adventurous teenage romance. A little edgier than a teen comedy, but that's it.

Extract (2009)
4/10
The director tries to recreate "Office Space (1999)" work environment but somewhat fails. Laughs are few and scarce idea's make the movie nothing more than just modest.

Defendor (2009)

A conceptual superhero movie that has been done way better on "Special (2006)".

A Prophet (2009)
8/10
Raw gritty, yet very powerful tense thriller of survival of the fittest type prison life. French cinema at its best.

Mel Gibson is great. One neat little package of dark drama and action. Well done.

It's always great to see Scorsese at work, if only from a technical standpoint or his marvelous story telling. Some argue that the ending has been done before, but I think it's a thoughtful carefully constructed plot. It's a lot like The Machinist.

An easy going informative look on Asperger's syndrome. It's a solid one time view.

Straight up fun is what the movie aims for and delivers. It's very much like watching Dawn of the Dead.

9 (2009/I)
5/10
It's pretty, but stretching out a short to a full feature never works if there is nothing engaging to work with. It should have remained the short film that we saw once and forgot about.

The only thing keeping my attention were the action sequences. It's too slow, weak plot and lacks character development. It's Mad Max done horribly wrong.

Kick-Ass (2010)

Though somewhat overrated, the satire works very well and overall thrilling experience with more than enough comedic relief.

Låt den rätte komma in (2008)
9/10
There have been too many semi-realistic zombie/vampire flicks lately, but this Swedish film really shines. It's emotionally engaging, both subtle and brutal in style, brilliant.

I'm leaning more toward pointless art farty than accurate portrayal of schizophrenia. Lacks passion but nonetheless interesting.

This is the reason why actors remain actors and a great cast doesn't make a good movie.

Despite all the hate, I really enjoyed this film. Sure it's flawed, but it perfectly captures the connection between a real and an imaginary world, a dream sequence. It feels somewhat like Vanilla Sky without the mind-bending paradoxes.

The subject matter is always engaging, but the mixture between fact, entertainment and afterthought not always sticks.

This movie got me going from start to finish. Unbelievably clever, genuinely funny, utterly unique and highly entertaining. As a kid movie, it's better than all Pixar movies combined.

It's a movie that tries to be clever and gets lost in all his twists and turns. Despite that I felt the suspense, but kept giggling at all the bad ideas.

Crazy Heart (2009)

While the story of redemption and everything else is wonderful, the ambiance of country music got me out of it. It's personal.

Away We Go (2009)

If not for the main character's charisma and it's indie look and feel, this movie would fall flat. With that, thoroughly enjoying.

Marley & Me (2008)

It's a lightweight comedy about a family and a dog for the most part, but feels very natural and ends on a very beautiful note. Touching.

Brothers (2009/I)

Strong downer drama that's been done before, thrives a little to much on emotion but the drama feels pure and not too excessive.

New Moon (2009)

Despite the great soundtrack, it's too generic and unoriginal with lots of clichées. It's just a kid movie, still wondering why the werewolfs walk around shirtless.

Hachiko: A Dog's Story (2009)
9/10
Breath-taking, always engaging, wonderful tale about a man and his relation with a dog. A great film where Lasse Hallstrom once again proves to be a worthy director of a masterpiece filled with emotion and pure sentiment. I do admit.. I balled up.

Avatar (2009)

It's a consensus among all. Astonishing, groundbreaking and just overwhelming. The only critique worth pointing out is lack of a compelling story, but that's just picking dust.

Pandorum (2009)
5/10
The movie is filled with great ideas, which is a real joy, but sadly all the action sequences and quick cuts left an unstructural mess. Highly conceptual, but nothing to look out for.

A Serious Man (2009)
7/10
As a Coen bros fan, it's a real joy to witness their specific and perfected style of filmmaking, the cinematography and their effortless way of portraying with just a still image. But the subject, which apparently is a retelling of The Book of Job, is less intriguing than what Coen fans expect.

I thought Bullock's Oscar nomination is a bit overrated, but nonetheless the film is fairly decent, heartwarming and emotional, but sadly relies too much on cheesy dramatization and clichés.

With all these war movies capturing the same topic, it's still great to see a film be both unpretentious and intense. Not overly dramatized nor overwhelming. Just decent.

The Brothers Bloom (2008)

Fun, evocative and beautiful cinematography, but aims a little too much towards Wes Anderson film making which already is an acquired taste for many, like me.

The Girlfriend Experience (2009)

Where the Wild Things Are (2009)
7/10
A marvelous 'Alice in Wonderland'-like tale, but to me the way that Jonze creates an atmosphere is far superior than the movie itself. It's a great feeling you get, but even then feels a little too stretched out.

Surrogates (2009)

It's a movie built around a concept, feels too fictitious even for a sci-fi film and just poor directing. One of the worst films I've seen this year.

Antichrist (2009)

Von Trier is too dark, too experimental, too depressing for me to fully enjoy, but the way he draws you in is mindblowing, definitely only for film fanatics. I'm impressed but I don't feel good about myself.

District 9 (2009)

Groundbreaking film making with a limited budget that doesn't aim for a cinematic feel. It's an interesting, emotional and visionary sci-fi thriller. Brilliant.

(500) Days of Summer (2009)

Sweet, funny, original, charming, creative, wonderful, I could go on.. I love this movie about as much as Garden State, a fresh breeze in the romantic comedy genre. Also an amazing soundtrack.

I guess it's a pretty thrilling story and all, but nothing really did it for me. Well made and visually interesting but the story seems too stretched out. Also the gunfire audio effects are way too loud apposed to the dialog, drove me nuts.
